A lot goes into designing and building the kitchen of your dreams, with so many different choices to make with countertops, flooring and cabinets. This can be not only hard work, but also quite time consuming as well. The right kitchen backsplash is part of that series of choices. We’ve found that this can be an area of the kitchen that you can really have fun with and express some of your creativity. If you aren’t already familiar, the backsplash is the tiling that protects the walls between your countertop and cabinets, most commonly found right above the sink if a window isn’t placed there. If you aren’t sure what to do with your backsplash yet, we’ve compiled some of our favorite ideas to help you bring your kitchen to the next level.

Painted Tile Backsplash

We love the look of painted tile, especially when it can add a splash of color and accentuate other elements in the kitchen. This look is a great balance between something more modern and traditional and won’t give you the high contrast look of the uber modern minimalist kitchens.

Extra Large Subway Tile Backsplash

A fully modern look, this is a very popular choice for newer looking kitchens, especially considering just how versatile the large subway tile can be. Even if white doesn’t appear much in other places around your new kitchen, the backsplash can be a great place to create contrast, especially if both your cabinets and countertops are a bit darker.

Textured Tile Backsplash

There’s a whole world out there of textures tiles, including high gloss, abstract wave patterns, and plenty of other inlays. This is a great way to add a bit of a rustic feel to your kitchen if that’s what you’re going for.

Marble or Soapstone Backsplash

If you’re looking for an option that’s super unique, you can opt for darker marble or soapstone on your backsplash. While this might be a slightly pricier option, you can’t deny it’s an extremely intriguing look. With no need for extra durability or heat resistance, the backsplash is, in some ways, the ideal location for marble or soapstone.

Hexagon Tile Backsplash

Experimenting with a unique tile shape is another way to get a more unique look out of your kitchen. Hexagon tiles are one of the easiest options for DIY tilers who are looking for something a little different.
